This gorgeous wedding took place in the lush mountains of North Georgia, overlooking the gorgeous valley landscape. The ceremony was held at the Carnegie Ruins, with the ancient stone steps as a backdrop. It was the most beautiful setting to tie the knot!

The blues, greys, creams, and greenery that made up the couples color palette perfectly accented the surrounding environment of evergreen trees and old stone walls.

An outdoor al fresco dinner for their 150 guests was complete with long wood head table, ivory textiles, and dusty blue napkins tied with jute. Guests were welcomed into the “ruins” for dancing, dessert, and the band kept people on the dance floor all night long. A special detail of their day was the bottle of wine on each guest’s table, a favorite of the bride’s and groom’s - how sweet is that?

DJ or Band??

The debate of band vs. DJ can seem never-ending, but you may not realize that the decision may be easier than you think. It’s really about what you want and communicating that precisely with your DJ or band. From finding a DJ with a great playlist to hiring a band that can keep everyone on the dance floor, here’s a couple wedding music myths and our all time best tip!

Myth #1 - A DJ will talk too much and play cheesy tunes.

We have all heard about (or been to) weddings where a DJ talked too much. If you are nervous about this happening, consider sending an example of what you find inappropriate. You can find a litany of bad DJ videos on YouTube. Just be sure you say it nicely! Worried that your DJ has his mind set on “Y.M.C.A.” and the “Wobble”? If this isn’t your style, remember your DJ wants to play what you want to hear, but you have to communicate your tastes clearly. Don’t rely on words alone, since terms like “dance music”, “rock”, and “slow songs” are vague and can easily be misinterpreted. To make sure you are on the same music style page, give them a playlist and a do-not-play list. And our all time best tip for music: Be sure that you give your DJ or band the correct version of your song. (e.g. some songs have club/radio versions that may include profanity, and might not be appropriate, for say a Mother-Son dance)! Been there!!

Myth #2 - Slow songs should come first, followed by faster tunes after the cake-cutting.

Some couples request that their DJ or Band play slow rock or big band style songs early on to please their older guests, and then switch over to more lively beats so the younger crowd can dominate the floor until last call. But it can be more fun for you and your guests if you mix it up throughout the night. Alternating between speeds, styles, and era’s of music will keep guests of all ages more engaged and make it truly memorable.
